How effective are the results?
The results are amazing and patients often describe the treatment as life changing. The treatment will usually take effect after 2-4 days with the full effect being noted at 2 weeks. It will usually last between 6-12 months and then the treatment will need to be repeated.
What is Hyperhidrosis?
We all sweat to keep the body at a steady temperature so that all the chemical reactions inside work properly. We sweat more when it is hot, when we exercise and when we are stressed or anxious. Some people sweat more than is needed to control their body temperature. This is known as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis can often cause embarrassment and be very restrictive.
Treatment with Botulinum toxin injections can be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and works by blocking the chemical at the end of the nerves so that it cannot work on the glands or muscles. In the case of sweat glands, the procedure ‘turns off the glands’ to reduce sweating, then blocks the nerves that stop sweating.
Does the treatment hurt?
The procedure itself involves several injections into the armpit. This is relatively painless as a very fine needle is used and patients often report that they are unable to feel the majority of the injections or just a slight scratch. A numbing cream will be offered at your consultation should it be required.
